Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about using the Lord's Prayer as a template for your personal prayer life. I've continued to do that and God answered one of my prayers in a very literal way. I want to share with you exactly what happened, but first let me give you a bit of background.

Bagels are a Jewish Thing? Right? So the Exodus Story is Relevant.

Bagels are a Jewish Thing? Right? So the Exodus Story is Relevant.

I started a new Bible reading plan in January which will take me through the whole Bible in a year. The past few weeks, I have been reading in Exodus where Moses was leading the people out of Egypt.

"And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, and the people of Israel said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger." Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not." (Exodus‬ ‭16:2-4‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

So, as I'm reading about God providing daily bread, I'm also praying as part of the Lord's Prayer "Give us this day our daily bread". Which is was something I was honestly taking more figuratively. I was praying for God to supply the needs of my family; money had been tight lately and I was choosing to trust God to provide instead of choosing to worry.

God tied together what I have been reading and praying into a beautiful lesson. I opened my email box Monday morning to find a bunch of junk mail, mostly advertisements, including one from Panera which for some reason I chose to read instead of delete with the rest of the ads. I am a Panera Rewards member and my reward for the month of February was one free bagel for each day of the month. The offer could not be used in bulk (I can't buy 29 bagels on the first of the month). I was literally given a daily bagel. My daily bread.

In that moment I knew God was telling me that He has heard my prayers and He will provide and take care of me each day. I may not always see or know in advance how it will happen, but day by day if I trust in Him, I will receive my daily bread, which happens to be an Everything Bagel today.

Has God ever answered your prayer in a unique or special way? Please share below.
