Angels, Aliens, and Ancestry - #ec2dot13

It's not hard to find someone today that has heard of or possibly even believes in a "conspiracy theory". Whether it's a government cover-up, aliens and UFO's, or Bigfoot, these theories can be fun to discuss. There are even some that believe the Bible holds a conspiracy theory or two. This week, the EC crew explores one of Sarah's favorites: the Sons of God and the daughters of men.

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
— Genesis 6:1-4

Focus 5

  1. Who or should we say what are the "sons of God"?
  2. Who are the "daughters of men"? Is there anything special about these women?
  3. Some believe the Nephilim referred to in these verses were their offspring; given what we've discussed thus far what are the Nephilim (human, spirit, hybrid)?
  4. There is another theory that the Nephilim were hybrids and their spirits roamed the earth after the flood and became what we know as demons. Can this be true?
  5. There is one more theory that the "sons of God" really refer to aliens. Are they really aliens or just mistaken angels?
