#ec1dot21 - Alcohol and the Rest of the Story
The debate over drinking alcohol splits the Church into many categories: complete abstinence, drink but don’t get drunk, and the how much is too much crowd. The desire to drink, the permission to drink, and the costs of consuming alcohol are all important aspects of the discussion.
We try to cover them all on this episode of Another Empty Conversation
"I sought gold and diamond rings, my own drug to ease the pain that living brings,
then I came crashing down like a drunk a bar room floor
searching for my beautiful reward"
Some sobering lyrics from Bruce Springsteen are an apt reminder that we can easily turn to all types of substitutes while searching for something to fill the holes in your heart. No matter where you line up in the debate of alcohol consumption you will end up on the wrong side if your reason for drinking is to fill in the gaps of life. We all have hurts, habits, and hangups - but we don’t have to.
Thats the beautiful reward of Jesus.
The time has arrived for Another Empty Conversation - a show that lets you eavesdrop on a conversation about faith and following Jesus. We talk about our faith so you can talk about yours.
We are back at the coffee shop this week and wouldn’t you know it we are talking about beverages that can become addicting.
Getting drunk is a Bible-based no-no, but there are some defend never taking a drink and there are those who find no issue to having a couple of beers with friends.
Sean, Sarah, Kristal and I will discuss many facets of the topic and we hope that we don’t sound foolish.
