#ec1dot34 - Rebelling and Submitting
On this episode:
Calling all Christians! Fight the Evil Government in the name of Jesus!
The call continues to go out, but is that call even Biblical?
Does it ignore the admonitions of the church fathers?
If we are going to find out what it means to be a Christian then we better figure if a Christian is supposed to submit to authority or rebel against it.
That tall task is the focus of this episode of Another Empty Conversation.
The time has arrived for Another Empty Conversation - a show that lets you eavesdrop on a conversation about faith and following Jesus. We talk about our faith so you can talk about yours.
Welcome to Empty Conversation episode 1dot34. Welcome to the struggle of being a Christian - or at least welcome to a conversation about the struggle of being a Christian
This current series tries to answer the question “What does it mean to be a Christian?” and so far we have found that answer is harder to pin down than we originally thought simply because the Christian is asked to live in their current context of this world and also live a member of the kingdom of God.
Last week we discussed the tension between believing everything you hear and having been skeptical of the claims of the Bible. We ultimately concluded that it is wise to read and study for yourself, but, and this is important, don’t become cold and calloused to the truth. All this is easier said than done and that is why we need the Holy Spirit to help us.
And we will need him again this week!
Christians around the world find themselves under a diverse set of governmental conditions. Some are allowed more freedom than others. Some face more oppressions than others. There are even times when a Christian can feel compelled to fight against the government and defy their authority in the name of Jesus.
Is this right? Is it even Biblical?
How does a Christian properly interpret Romans 13 and the stories of civil disobedience found in the book of Daniel?
Sticky situations call for Empty Conversations, so you know how we do it around here.
Now its time to leave you a preview so you too can review what we do as we jump into Another Empty Conversation
So, how will you choose to live your life in light of what the Bible says? Ultimately the decision to listen to the Holy Spirit and search the Scriptures is up to you and we would love to hear what you have come up with. Leave us a comment on our blog or drop 140 characters on Twitter @emptychurch. Next week we tackle the topic of going to church and the call to be the church - what does that even mean? We’ll find out next week, can’t wait for you to join us.
